Painting depicts retaking of Fort Stedman by Union Army on March 25, 1865.  View is west with Petersburg skyline (spires) visible in top right corner.  100th Pennsylvania came into Fort Stedman from Fort Haskell in the left side of painting with Major Norman J. Maxwell leading the charge (not shown in painting).  This was the Roundheads finest hour with 4 Confederate battle flags captured, 2 Congressional Medal of Honor awardees and numerous resulting promotions.  It was also a battle that all but sealed the final defeat of Robert E. Lee's army.
